No is an Interesting Word

Last night, I told the kids, "Time for bed!" and both got that grouchy, pouty look on their faces... and said, "No!"

Realizing I could go head to head with them... for me that means that I get into some sort of word battle using a mix of demands and persuasion... I looked at them for awhile and said, "No is an interesting word."

That was it... it was an observation.  I then turned on the lights in their bathroom and bedrooms while turning off the lights in the rest of the house.  Both stood up went and brushed their teeth... no big deal...

What I said was simply an observation... no judgment and no engaging in a battle of "No!"s.

My Best,
